Il progetto editoriale, infatti, si colloca all'interno di una storia degli stili che pone il testo musicale come soggetto principale della trattazione. Di conseguenza, nella presentazione dei linguaggi del primo Novecento viene limitato l'approccio squisitamente storico, di solito legato alle vicende biografiche e all'esposizione complessiva della produzione dei diversi compositori, privilegiando la descrizione delle caratteristiche e dello sviluppo dei diversi stili musicali. Ciò viene realizzato fornendo alcune chiavi di lettura specifiche, dedotte e sviluppate dalla più recente letteratura musicologica, ma anche presentando alcune opere considerate significative dell'epoca e puntualizzando l'attenzione sulle tecniche e sulle scelte del singolo compositore. In tal senso, oltre a individuare correnti e scuole, i lavori proposti in questo volume spesso si concentrano su esempi specifici, scelti tra quelli più rappresentativi, che il lettore può approfondire.
Libri, duke propozuar një koleksion esesh të shkruara nga studiues me formim dhe prejardhje të ndryshme, paraqet disa aspekte novatore në lidhje me tregimet tradicionale të muzikës së kultivuar. Projekti editorial, në fakt, vendoset brenda një historie stilesh që e vendos tekstin muzikor si subjekt kryesor të diskutimit. Për rrjedhojë, në paraqitjen e gjuhëve të fillimit të shekullit të njëzetë, qasja thjesht historike është e kufizuar, zakonisht e lidhur me ngjarjet biografike dhe ekspozimin e përgjithshëm të prodhimit të kompozitorëve të ndryshëm, duke favorizuar përshkrimin e karakteristikave dhe zhvillimit të stile të ndryshme muzikore.
